Connected Horse Wins National Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Award

We are pleased to announce to our “herd” that we have been awarded the National Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Award for our Barn-At-Home program. In celebration of the 16th year of the Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards, The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert FoundationBader Philanthropies, Inc., and Family Caregiver Alliance are pleased to celebrate Connected Horse and two other organizations—each delivering grassroots, state-of-the-art programs that address the needs of caregivers and those they care for living with cognitive challenges.

Connected Horse is honored to be selected for this year’s Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Award.  Our mission is to inspire connection, engagement, and emotional healing for all of our participants.  Receiving an innovation award for Connected Horse’s Barn-At-Home program is especially rewarding because of its potential to reach those without access to our live programs. Our Barn-At-Home kits, developed for use with at-home and senior programs, create a sensory experience of being with horses through specially curated engagement kits containing tactile, aromatherapy, conversation prompts, music, and photo exploration in a virtual barn environment.  The programs spark the senses and emotional memories while encouraging play, laughter, and movement.

In addition to this prestigious recognition for our impact on the Alzheimer’s population, we receive $20,000! These funds will go a long way to expanding our program to use with at-home adult day programs, senior living communities, and our interactive Zoom workshops.

The other two awardees are A Friendly Day at the Movies, America’s first Dementia friendly movie program offered through the Dementia Friendly Saline in Saline, Michigan, and AFSC Community Center at the Cape Code Mall through the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center in Brewster, Mass.  View detailed information on the winning programs.

We would love to celebrate with our friends and colleagues. Please join us as we receive our award at the Alzheimer’s Caregiving Award Reception in San Francisco on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, Yosemite A. There will be program presentations, conversation, hors d’oeuvres, and beverages. All are welcome!
